The Boston Red Sox received encouraging injury news Tuesday night despite another frustrating result at Fenway Park, as interim manager Chad Tracy offered a positive update on Willson Contreras following Boston’s loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Red Sox dropped the series opener 2-1 and fell to 17-24, remaining in last place in the American League East. With the club continuing to search for consistency, the veteran first baseman’s status became an important storyline after he was unavailable during the game.
Contreras, who joined the Red Sox during the offseason after a trade from the St. Louis Cardinals, has been dealing with a bruised right hand suffered when he was hit by a pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week. Although he took batting practice before Tuesday’s matchup, the club kept him out as a precaution.
Following the game, 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Tyler Milliken shared video from Tracy’s postgame media availability on X, formerly Twitter, as the interim manager addressed Contreras’ availability for Wednesday’s second game of the three-game series vs. the Phillies.
“Chad Tracy says Willson Contreras wasn’t available off the bench tonight, but he should be good to go tomorrow.”
The update gave Boston some optimism as the lineup continues searching for more consistent production. Contreras has been one of the club’s most reliable bats this season, providing power and run production in the middle of the order.

The Red Sox struggled to generate offense Tuesday night despite creating several late-scoring opportunities. Phillies ace Zack Wheeler controlled the game, allowing just one run across 7 1/3 innings while setting a modern MLB efficiency mark by needing only 16 pitches through the first three innings.
Still, Tracy’s encouraging comments on Contreras offered the Red Sox a positive development after another difficult loss. With the series against Philadelphia continuing and the Red Sox already trying to climb out of an early division hole, getting one of their top hitters back quickly would provide a needed boost.
