LOS ANGELES – Shohei Ohtani broke his long home run drought with his seventh of the season, but Yoshinobu Yamamoto was tagged with the loss as the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 6-2 defeat against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.
Ohtani went deep to left center for an opposite-field solo shot with no outs in the third inning at Dodger Stadium, firing a 2-1 sinker from Adrian Houser (1-4) for his first home run since April 26 to give his team a 2-1 lead.
The two-way superstar went 2-for-4, having also singled and scored in the first, but it was not enough to prevent the Dodgers from losing their fourth straight game as Yamamoto (3-3) gave up five runs over 6-1/3 innings.
The right-hander was taken deep by Eric Haase in the top of the third and yielded two more solo shots with two outs in the fifth when Harrison Bader tied the game, with Haase then putting the Giants ahead with his second big fly.
Yamamoto allowed a double and a single to open the seventh and got the hook with one out before the Giants scored three runs in the frame.
Houston Astros rookie Tatsuya Imai (1-1) was handed his first loss in MLB, meanwhile, after giving up six runs on five hits, three walks and two hit batsmen over four innings in their 10-2 clobbering by the Seattle Mariners.
Imai, returning after arm fatigue, walked his first batter in the second ahead of Randy Arozarena’s two-run homer. The right-hander began the fourth by hitting his first two batters, then walking the next, before Dominic Canzone slugged a grand slam for a 6-2 lead for the Mariners.
