Illini West and West Hancock played in baseball action on Tuesday, May 5, at Jake Burling Field in Carthage and the Chargers claimed a big 15-0 win.

Karter Jairl and Logan Baker both struck out looking to open the game for the Titans. Juris Pohren singled to right field. Layton Conkright grounded out to third base to close the half inning.

Eli Bisby led off the home first for Illini West with a grounder and went to second on an error by the shortstop. Wesley Robertson was hit by a pitch. Bisby took third and Robertson second on a passed ball. Conkright struck out Cash Jones and Grady Blue swinging for the first two outs. Aiden Hocker hit a ground ball and reached on an error by the shortstop to score Bisby and Robertson for a 2-0 Chargers lead. Austin Cramer grounded into a fielder’s choice and Hocker was out at second base to close out the inning.

Killian Todd singled to right to open the second inning. Todd stole second base. Dylan Carter walked. Ethan Carlisle struck out Adam Pena looking for the first out. Todd went to third base and Carter to second on a wild pitch. Carlisle struck out Everett Salter and Tucker Stevens looking to close the half inning.

Carlisle was hit by a pitch to start the home second. Gavin Skein singled to center field. Holton Darbyshire was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Liam Murphy courtesy ran for Darbyshire. Bisby singled to center field. Carlisle scored for a 3-0 lead. Robertson was hit by a pitch to plate Skien and up the lead to 4-0. Jones drew walk to score Murphy for a 5-0 Chargers lead. Blue lined out to the third baseman for the first out. Hocker singled to center to score Bisby and Robertson for a 7-0 gap. Cramer flew out to center for the second out. Carlisle was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Skien walked to score Jones and make the score 8-0. Cordell Vehmeier courtesy ran for Carlisle. Darbyshire was hit by a pitch to plate Hocker for a 9-0 score. Murphy courtesy ran for Darbyshire. Vehmeier scored on a wild pitch for a 10-0 Chargers lead. Bisby flew out to center field to end the inning.

Carlisle struck out Jairl swinging and Baker looking to open the top of the third inning. Pohren lined to second base to end the half inning.

Robertson walked to lead off the home third. Jones singled to right field. Robertson took third base and Jones second on an error by the pitcher. Blue singled to right field and Robertson and Jones crossed the plate to up the lead to 12-0. Hocker singled to left field. Blue went to third and Hocker to second on a wild pitch. Cramer popped up to second base for the first out. Carlisle doubled to left field to score Blue and Hocker for a 14-0 advantage. Skien popped out to second and Darbyshire grounded out to the shortstop to end the inning.

Conkright was hit by a pitch opening the fourth inning. Todd grounded out to second base. Carter struck out swinging for the second out. Pena flew out to left field to end the half inning.

Murphy pinch hit for Bisby and doubled to center field to begin the home fourth. Vehmeier and Mason Williams walked to load the bases. Kane Burgdorf batted for Blue. He was hit by a pitch to score Murphy and end the game 15-0 in favor of the Chargers.

Carlisle grabbed the win. He pitched 3 innings and gave up two hits, struck out seven and walked one. Conkright took the loss. He lasted 1-1/3 innings, gave up four hits and 10 runs (eight earned), struck out two and walked two. The Chargers improved to 19-4 while the Titans lost their 10th straight to fall to 7-15.
