The Baltimore Orioles came out of the 2025 MLB season looking to rebound and return to the postseason, and they underwent some major changes this offseason in hopes of turning into a true World Series contender.

But, they’re 20-24 on the season and dealing with a litany of injuries to key players. But, beyond that, their trade deadline needs are a sign of how bad things went this offseason.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report highlighted one position the Orioles need at this year’s trade deadline, and it’s not one that fans should be happy about.

“The starting rotation, however, has been a trainwreck, with 10 arms combining for a 5.04 ERA and just 10 quality starts,” Miller writes. “… but Baltimore would be aggressively pursuing ace potential on the trade block.”

After an offseason that tried to address the starting rotation with a blockbuster trade and expensive signing, the starting rotation being their top need is a sign of the Orioles’ failure this past offseason.

Orioles offseason failure results in SP being top need

This past offseason, the Orioles spent a ton to acquire Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade. That’s gone horribly, with Baz posting a 5.48 ERA with a 1-4 record and no quality starts this season.

Chris Bassitt was a big free agent acquisition, and he’s posted a 5.21 ERA with a 3-2 record with two of the team’s 10 quality starts.

Trevor Rogers has a 5.77 ERA and is one of the biggest disappointments of the entire MLB season so far, while Kyle Bradish has a 4.21 ERA, and Brandon Young has a 4.15 ERA.

The Orioles do need to add to their starting rotation this season, with a frontline ace the clear need. They failed to find one in the offseason, and now they are paying the price.

This top need, according to Miller, is an accurate one, and it’s also highlighting the failure of the Orioles front office this past offseason.
