Welcome to the Subway Series, Spencer Jones.
Friday’s 5-2 victory over the Mets was Jones’ first taste of the bi-annual classic between both New York clubs.
And Jones played a role in getting his team the win.
Jones, who the Yankees called up for his big-league debut last week, went 2-for-4 while recording his first RBI in his Subway Series debut, with Jazz Chisholm Jr. scoring on the youngster’s single in the fifth inning.
An inning prior, Jones reached on an infield single off ex-Yankees right-hander Clay Holmes. The pair of singles gave Jones his first multi-hit game of his young career.
Through six big-league games, Jones is slashing .188/.316/.188.
Manager Aaron Boone slotted Jones in the DH spot while he batted seventh on Friday night.
Jones’ opportunity came after the Yankees dealt with injuries to Giancarlo Stanton and Jasson Dominguez.
Initially, the team placed Stanton on the injury list with a calf injury last month. That injury made room for Dominguez, who had been raking in Triple-A since the start of the season.
Then, The Martian landed on the IL after crashing into the outfield wall while catching a flyball in a win against the Texas Rangers on May 7. The collision caused Dominguez to be sidelined with a left shoulder AC joint sprain, which he received a PRP injection for on Wednesday.
Jones wasn’t the only Yankee making a Subway Series debut on Friday night.
Starter Cam Schlittler shined in his debut, allowing just one run in 6.2 innings of work. He gave up two hits, two walks and struck out nine.
