The Statesmen, playing in just their second-ever NCAA D-III Baseball Tournament, upset #14 Mount Union 4-1 in game one of the Salisbury region in Maryland. Hobart (31-13) stormed out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back in the historic win. The Statesmen last played in the NCAA Tournament in 1992 and lost both games that year.
Designated hitter Will Jones drove in two RBI to help lead Hobart to victory. Pitcher Cole Tarrant earned his 100th career strikeout in the win and pitched 6 1/3 innings of work giving up just one run on four hits. Hobart is coached by Johnson City native and former Elmira Pioneers pitcher Brad Cook. Now in his fourth season, Cook has guided Hobart to a memorable run and they show no signs of letting up.
