KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals were able to avoid an I-70 series sweep on Sunday, thanks to the outstanding play of Stephen Kolek (2-0) in a 2-0 victory.
Kolek went 6.1 innings, allowing no earned runs with four hits, three strikeouts and one walk to go along with the winning decision.

Salvador Perez drove in the only runs of the game, the first being on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning that scored Maikel Garcia, and the second being a solo home run to left field in the fourth.
The win ends a six-game losing streak for the Royals, who now sit at 20-27.
Despite their recent struggles on their road trip, they’re only 2.5 games out the final Wild Card spot in what has been a very subpar American League so far this season, with currently only five teams above .500.
The Royals will come back home for a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox starting on Monday at 6:40 p.m.
