ACE ARRIVES: Tarik Skubal reports to Comerica Park, but not to start for Tigers

Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers, on May 18, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan.
Left-hander Framber Valdez made the start for the Tigers, opposed by Guardians right-hander Slade Cecconi.
The Guardians have a 26-22 record for first place in the AL Central, while the Tigers are struggling in fourth place with a 20-27 record, with 10 losses in their past 12 games.
“This is such a fun rivalry that’s developed, certainly over the last couple of years as both teams have been really good,” manager A.J. Hinch said before Monday’s game. “I have a lot of respect for how they go about it. We know the division runs through Cleveland. As much as we want to say otherwise, they’ve done it. We have to take that personally and overcome them and work to get to where we want to get to. That’s the brutal truth.”
