Mike Trout RBI double adds to Angels’ lead over Guardians

Mike Trout isn’t have a great season, but he is having a great day.

With a runner on, Nolan Jones hit a line drive to the right-center gap that was missed by Angels right fielder Jorge Soler, allowing the ball to roll to the wall.

As the runner scored, Jones slid into third with a triple. But Zach Neto’s throw to third skipped away from Yoan Moncada, and Jones was able to get up and score as well. Officially, it’s an RBI triple with a throwing error, but it’s unofficially known as a Little League home run.

And the Guardians lineup, meanwhile, remains stagnant at best with one hit through their first three innings at the plate against Hendricks, who hasn’t been having a great 2025 season.

The Guardians made multiple roster moves before Saturday’s game.

David Fry (elbow surgery) has been activated off the injured list, taking the spot vacated by Lane Thomas. Right-handed pitcher Cody Bolton was designated for assignment to make room for Fry on the 40-man roster.

Fry will return as a designated hitter. It’s possible he could play the field — perhaps first base — later in the season, but at least for the time being, he won’t play the field.

Andrew Walters is also headed to the injured list with a right lat strain sustained in Friday’s game. Nic Enright has been quickly recalled from Triple-A to take his place in the bullpen.
