TAYLORSVILLE — It is tournament time for baseball and softball teams in the area.

District 30 play started on Sunday and concluded with championship games on Tuesday, weather permitting.

Spencer County hosted the baseball and softball tournaments.

SOFTBALL

As the number two seed, Samantha Smith’s softball team would open play in the semifinals on Monday against Collins, the third seed.

The Lady Bearcats won 15-5 in six innings to earn yet another berth in the Eighth Region tournament.

On Tuesday, Anderson County would face top-seeded Woodford County at 6 p.m. for the championship. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament, which starts next week.

BASEBALL

On Sunday, the Bearcats opened play with a battle against Shelby County.

Coach L.W. Barnes’ team got off to a quick start and advanced to the semifinals with a 9-5 victory.

The season came to a close on Monday evening as Anderson County fell to top-seeded Spencer County, 10-0 in five innings.

The Bearcats finished with a 12-20 record on the season.
