ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — We’ve reached the postseason, and your No. 1-seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are headed to Charlotte with their sights set on an ACC Tournament title.
In Week 13 of “Jackets All Access” on Atlanta News First, we break down how Georgia Tech’s next generation of catchers is carrying on the program’s “Catcher U” legacy and send sports anchors Avery Braxton and Connor Hines to Mac Nease Baseball Park to learn how the field maintenance crew gets the job done.
Catcher U
From Jason Varitek to Vahn Lackey, Georgia Tech has built a reputation as “Catcher U.”
This week, sports reporter Kinsey Lee sat down with the Jackets to talk about the legacy behind the position — and why the next generation is ready to carry it forward.
Out on the diamond
Members of the field maintenance crew may not get a number assigned. But trust us. No one is more important when it comes to keeping the field at Mac Nease Baseball Park perfect.
And since sports director Baillie Burmaster isn’t going to do any manual labor, she sent sports anchors Avery Braxton and Connor Hines out to the diamond to get their hands dirty.
Up next
Now it’s time for the Jackets’ stars to prove they belong in Charlotte and bring home the ACC Tournament title.
The top-seeded Yellow Jackets will play No. 8-seeded Virginia in the ACC Quarterfinals on Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina. The two did not face each other during the regular season.
