The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, ahead of their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Garcia, ranked as the organization’s No. 4 prospect, fills the roster spot of Nick Yorke, who was optioned after Sunday’s game, following a quad strain to Ryan O’Hearn that is expected to sideline him for four weeks.
The 23-year-old outfielder made his team debut on Tuesday, finishing 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout before being pinch-hit for in the ninth inning of Pittsburgh’s victory.

“This is a great opportunity,” said Jhostynxon Garcia, outfielder.

Before his promotion, Garcia posted a .242 batting average with six home runs and 13 RBIs across 25 Minor League games this season.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity,” said Jhostynxon Garcia, outfielder.

Garcia previously played five games for the Boston Red Sox in August 2025 before joining Pittsburgh in a multi-player trade in December.
“I definitely feel a lot better and more comfortable with this not being my first time [in the big leagues],” said Jhostynxon Garcia, outfielder.
Pirates manager Don Kelly expressed optimism about Garcia’s versatility and defense, noting his strong performance during Spring Training where he recorded a 1.058 OPS.

“He has a really exciting skill set,” said Don Kelly, manager.
Kelly noted that Garcia’s outfield defense exceeded initial organizational expectations when the trade was completed.
“When we traded for him, you saw the power and stuff he does offensively,” said Don Kelly, manager.

The manager planned to give Garcia regular playing time to help him adjust after returning from a minor back injury.
“Coming off the injury, he’s not going to be in there every single day, but he’s going to get some runway and get a lot of at-bats,’’ said Don Kelly, manager.
Following Tuesday’s debut, Kelly addressed the young outfielder’s timing against Major League pitching.

“I think maybe he wasn’t on time completely, being the first game up in the big leagues since last year,” said Don Kelly, manager.
