Recent Mets Cast-Off Gets DFA’d Again After Brief Stint in AL East originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

A recent member of the New York Mets was designated for assignment once again on May 31, not long after the Mets made the same choice a little over a month ago on April 29.

That player is long-time journeyman pitcher José Ureña, who allowed five earned runs over 3.0 innings during his lone Mets appearance on April 28.

It was the Toronto Blue Jays who DFA’d Ureña this time around. They announced the roster move on Saturday, calling up left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas in his place.

Ureña made 6 appearances with Toronto, logging 2 starts. He had a 3.65 ERA and a 1.216 WHIP over 12.1 innings pitched, allowing 3 home runs.

Although Ureña started the year with the Mets, most Amazin’s fans probably remember him best with the Miami Marlins.

Ureña made his MLB debut in 2015, starting 9 games for the Marlins (20 appearances total). He went 1-5 with an ERA of 5.25.

Despite that rocky start, Ureña carved out a fairly long career in Miami, starting 98 games over six MLB seasons. He finished with 32 wins and a cumulative 4.60 ERA.

After his time with the NL East rival Marlins, Ureña bounced around the league a bit, making major league appearances with the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers.

His best season was a 14-win campaign in Miami, although Ureña’s time with the Rangers wasn’t bad either. Over 33 appearances for Texas, Ureña recorded a 5-8 record and a 3.80 ERA.

It remains to be seen if Ureña will elect free agency once again, as he did when the Mets DFA’d him in April. He turns 34 years old in September.
