Right now, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is the favorite to win the American League MVP, according to most sportsbooks.

Judge, who continues to be the best player in Major League Baseball offensively, has done nothing but swing the bat at a very high level once again. He already has 16 home runs, 46 hits, and is hitting .250 with another ridiculous .955 OPS.

He also has a 164 OPS+, proving time and time again that he isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.

What might sound crazy to some is the fact that one of the players on the Yankees roster has been just as good as him this year in terms of home runs and OPS, as well as batting average. Slugger Ben Rice is hitting .288 on the year with a 1.042 OPS, blasting 16 home runs.

According to a former Boston Red Sox star and current media member, there’s a possibility that Rice will be the reason Judge doesn’t win the Most Valuable Player award in the American League.

“Remember what I told you?” Pedro Martinez said on the broadcast. “I told you he was going to be probably the biggest rival he was going to have in the American League for MVP. I told you that. Ben Rice is going to be the one that’s going to take votes away from Aaron Judge.”

I don’t really think Judge cares a whole lot if his teammate wins the Most Valuable Player award over him, as he’s one of those guys who just wants to win games at a high level.

No matter how that happens, Judge seemingly is fine with other players on the roster doing just as well as him. He wants to win a World Series, and if that means Rice has 50 home runs and has a better season than him, so be it.
