Miami, FL – Miami Marlins pitching prospect Robby Snelling is expected to miss the remainder of the season after the organization announced the left handed pitcher will undergo elbow surgery.
The Marlins confirmed the injury after Snelling reportedly experienced arm discomfort during a recent appearance while pitching for Double A Pensacola.
Team officials said further medical evaluations determined surgery would be necessary, ending the 21 year old prospect’s 2026 season.
Snelling is considered one of the top young pitchers in Miami’s farm system and was viewed as a potential future option for the Marlins’ major league starting rotation.
The organization acquired him earlier this year from the San Diego Padres in the trade involving former batting champion Luis Arraez.
Before the injury, Snelling had continued progressing through the minor leagues while posting strong strikeout numbers and developing into one of the Marlins’ highest rated prospects.
His performances in Double A drew attention as the organization continued rebuilding its pitching depth for the future.
The Marlins have not publicly disclosed the exact surgical procedure or provided a detailed recovery timetable.
