The San Joaquin Athletic Association released its all-league team after the season, and Tokay sophomore Alex Preap was named MVP after leading the Tigers to a co-championship.
Tokay finished 12-2 in league play, tied with Edison atop the standings, and finished 15-14 overall with a first-round exit in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs.
Preap was key in the Tigers’ co-title, playing just about everywhere on the field. As a pitcher, he went 5-0 in six appearances in league play, with a 1.97 ERA against SJAA opponents. He finished with a 6-1 record across the season and a 1.95 ERA, pitching 43 innings to allow 28 hits and 15 runs (12 earned). Meanwhile, he piled up 51 strikeouts.
In the field, where he played both infield and outfield, Preap batted .354 this season, going 29-for-82 with three triples, seven doubles, 14 RBIs and 24 runs.
Another top award went to senior catcher Evan Dodero, who won Outstanding Defensive Player after he ended the season with just two errors while playing in all 29 games. Dodero batted .246, going 15-for-61 with 18 RBIs and 15 runs.
Also reeling in top awards are Franklin catcher Ian Apalakis as Outstanding Hitter, while Co-Outstanding Pitchers were Edison’s Santiago Moreno and Stagg’s Rocco Rodriguez.
Tokay had three players on the All-League team in freshman outfielder Myka Apalit, junior outfielder Brody Steele and sophomore second baseman Nico Ferroni.
Apalit tied with Preap for the team lead in hits, going 29-for-86 for a .337 average, with three triples, five doubles, 18 RBIs and 25 runs. Steele went 2-for-59 (.339) with three triples, five doubles, and 15 each of RBIs and runs. Ferroni batted .302 (16-for-53) with two triples, two doubles, eight RBIs and 15 runs.
The rest of the All-League team was made up of Edison’s Isaac Stewart, Roman Stewart, and Izaak Navarette, Bear Creek’s Tyler Gilbert and Blake Youngblood, Stagg’s Jackson Brooks, Cruz Asia and Macieo Johnson-Ortiz, Weston Ranch’s Nicolas Orona and Anthony Arias, Franklin’s Topher Speers and Sergio Campuzano, Chavez’s Joseph Baltazar and McNair’s Steven Hillery.
Tokay pitcher and outfielder Jake Sell was given an Honorable Mention after batting .343 with a home run, four doubles, 11 RBIs and 28 runs on 24 hits, while making nine pitching appearances with a 1-3 record.
Others with honorable mentions were Weston Ranch’s Gerardo Ortega, Bear Creek’s Jacob Ordez, Edison’s Mateo Ceja, Franklin’s Gino Nino, Chavez’s Adrian Vang, Stagg’s Malachi Sepulveda and McNair’s Manny Moreira.
