Brendan O’Sullivan dives into his pick and prediction for the Miami Marlins vs. Toronto Blue Jays game on Wednesday, May 27.
The Marlins and Blue Jays play the third game of their three-game series on Wednesday, May 27.
Toronto is a -156 moneyline favorite, while Miami is +129 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under 7.5 runs.
Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Marlins vs. Blue Jays game.
Marlins vs. Blue Jays prediction, preview
The first two games of this series have been blowouts. Miami won 8-2 on Monday and Toronto won 8-1 on Tuesday. Will Wednesday produce a similar one-sided outcome? Well the Blue Jays have the pitching advantage, though that didn’t matter in game one.
Kevin Gausman is making his 12th start of the season—his fifth year with the Blue Jays and 14th in the majors. The veteran is once again playing well, holding a 3.23 ERA through 64 innings. He’s allowed one earned run in his last two starts (12.2 innings). That type of momentum is hard to come by, and it should be beneficial for the Blue Jays. That said, Trey Yesavage also had been excellent leading up to his start against Miami, but that ended with five earned runs in 6.2 frames.
Eury Perez is starting for the Marlins in his age-23 season. The young right-hander is coming off a 6.1-inning performance in which he allowed two hits, one earned run (solo home run) and zero walks. The other four starts in May haven’t been as tidy. He allowed five, five, three, and two earned runs in those outings.
Yesterday’s results aren’t indicative of tomorrow’s performances, but it’s always important to see how a pitcher is playing leading up to a game.
The season is still young, but players are beginning to form a decent sample size. Perez’s 4.91 ERA across 58.2 innings isn’t pretty, while Gausman’s 3.23 over 64 frames is much, much cleaner.
Marlins vs. Blue Jays Pick, Best Bet
I got burned backing Yesavage on Monday, but the method was right. Toronto had the pitching advantage and should win more times than not in that scenario. We’ll run it back on Wednesday with Gausman this time. Blue Jays cover the -1.5 run line.
