SYRACUSE 6, IOWA 4 (BOX)

Syracuse scored all of their runs in the top of the first, but luckily for them, six runs is usually enough to win a ballgame; in this case, it indeed was. Syracuse sent six batters to the plate and scored four runs before Cubs starter Frankie Scalzo Jr. recorded his first out, with Jon Singleton and Luke Ritter doing most of the damage with 3 and 2 RBI doubles apiece. Brandon Sproat didn’t look particularly great, but he pitched well enough, lowering his season ERA to a shade over 6.00 with five innings of two-run ball.

BINGHAMTON 8, CHESSAPEAKE 1 (BOX)

Another win for Binghamton, nine in a row. The Rumble Ponies got on the board and took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second in an exciting inning that saw Jett Williams and Nick Morabito execute a picture-perfect double steal of second and home, and that was all Jack Wenninger needed. The right-hander gave up a run over six innings, scattering four hits, walking one, and striking out seven, lowering his ERA to 2.56 on the season and increasing his strikeout total to 60. Both marks are 2nd in the Eastern League behind only teammate Jonah Tong (2.25 ERA, 72 K).

BROOKLYN 5, ABERDEEN 4 (BOX)

With all of the talk of strong seasons from Jonah Tong, Nolan McLean, Jack Wenninger, and Zack Thornton, Noah Hall’s solid start to the year has kind of flown under the radar. I would not put his success on their individual levels, but the right-hander threw four scoreless innings in his start, lowering his season ERA to 2.63 in 48.0 innings with 35 hits allowed, 29 walks, and 50 strikeouts. Runs in the first and second put him in line for the win, but as soon as he left the mound, he got deGrom’ed. Raimon Gomez and Ben Simon combined to allow two runs in the frame, tying the game up at 2-2. Simon allowed two runs of his own in the sixth to put Aberdeen on top, but all was not lost. Jefrey De Los Santos and Jesus Baez drove in two in the eighth to tie the game at 4-4, and in the bottom of the ninth, Ronald Hernandez homered into right to put an exclamation on the comeback and put Brooklyn’s fifth win in the books.

PALM BEACH 11, ST. LUCIE 1 (BOX)

The first time through the Palm Beach Cardinal order, Will Watson looked fine. The right-hander walked a batter and gave up a double, but that was it. In the bottom of the fourth, the wheels came off. He gave up a home run to start the inning, allowed an RBI single, and loaded up the bases before being removed from the game. His replacement, Josh Blum, gave up a grand slam to the first batter he faced in the inning, and there really was no coming back from that one. St. Lucie didn’t exactly try, with the offense managing just 3 hits on the entire evening while the bullpen allowed five more runs to score.
