Chase Meidroth hits a grand slam and David Sandlin makes a strong MLB debut as the Chicago White Sox defeat the Minnesota Twins 10-3.

The Chicago White Sox put together one of their most complete performances of the season on Wednesday night, routing their division rival Minnesota Twins 15-2 at Rate Field.

Chase Meidroth delivered the biggest moment of the night with a grand slam in the fifth inning, while Munetaka Murakami continued his power surge with a home run of his own. Meanwhile, making his MLB debut, right-hander David Sandlin turned in a strong outing and helped Chicago cruise to the victory.

The win improved the White Sox to 28-27 on the season and gave them their fourth win in their last six games.

Meidroth’s Grand Slam Breaks the Game Open

The White Sox offense found its rhythm in the middle innings. After scratching across a few early runs, Chicago broke the game open in the fifth when Chase Meidroth stepped to the plate with the bases loaded.

Meidroth crushed a grand slam that cleared the bases and gave the White Sox a commanding lead. It was a signature moment for the young infielder, who has been showing some flashes of power this season after only homering five times in 505 plate appearances last season.

He has already reached that number in just 226 plate appearances this year.

Munetaka Murakami added to the offensive fireworks with yet another home run, his 20th of the season. The Japanese slugger has been one of the most consistent power threats in the American League all season, and his latest long ball helped Chicago keep the pressure on Minnesota’s pitching staff, as if it needed any more during a 13-1 ballgame.

After delivering a clutch homer in Tuesday night’s affair, which, albeit, came up short of a winning effort, Murakami has now homered twice against the Twins.

One of the more notable storylines of the night was the MLB debut of right-hander David Sandlin. Recalled on Tuesday after Noah Schultz was placed on the injured list, Sandlin started the ballgame and delivered a confident, effective outing. After giving up a leadoff home run to noted White Sox-killer Byron Buxton, Sandlin settled in and made some history of his own.

The White Sox will look to keep the momentum going as they continue their homestand with a fourth game against the Twins on Thursday afternoon. Their first matchup against the Detroit Tigers awaits them on Friday night as the homestand continues.
