Knoxville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Lookouts starter Kevin Abel settled down. Abel struck out six in six innings of work.
After a quiet first four innings, Chattanooga was able to string together some hits in the fifth. Shane Sasaki, who was 3-4, had a triple. He was driven in on the following play when Dominic Pitelli doubled to left field.
Once the Lookouts tied things at 1, the Smokies answered with a pair of runs in the fifth. Then in the bottom half, it was Cam Collier who answered with a two-run home run, his sixth of the season.
After Knoxville took another lead in the sixth inning, it was once again, the Lookouts punching back with a home run. Jay Allen II’s solo shot made it a 4-4 game. Things stayed that way until the 10th inning when the Smokies scored the go-ahead run. Chattanooga was unable to pull together one last rally, ultimately falling 5-4.
Game 3 of this series will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
