ARLINGTON — The getaway day commotion inside a big league clubhouse is not inherently conducive to revelry. There’s a slight time crunch while players hurriedly stuff their equipment bags, attempt to scarf down a quick bite to eat and toss on their matching travel sweatsuits before the charter buses depart for the airport.

In spite of that, on Sunday at Globe Life Field, the Rangers appeared more inclined to linger in slight glee before they shoved off for a single-city road trip.

It might’ve accounted for better cumulative vibes than the entire week before combined.

“You know,” catcher Kyle Higashioka said after a quick glance around the locker room, “it definitely feels a lot better than it did Friday morning.”

A well-executed sweep that secured an improbable winning homestand can have that effect. The Rangers won 6-3 against the Kansas City Royals in Sunday’s series finale — six days after they were no-hit by the Houston Astros and three days after they lost all but one of four games to their in-state rivals at the start of the home set — to conclude a weekend in which they succeeded in nearly every facet of the game.

The offense scored nine first-inning runs in three games, weaponized a variety of multifaceted tools and was driven by a host of hitters whose resurgent seasons are required for success. The trio of MacKenzie Gore, Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter reversed a recent worrisome trend, combined for three scoreless starts and propped up a once-steady bullpen that has finally hit turbulence. The defense, which has taken a sizeable step back in quality this season after it was one of the league’s best only a year ago, looked slick.

It resulted in their first undefeated series in nearly two months, one that pulled them to within 2 ½ games of the first-place Seattle Mariners in the American League West, and to within a half-game of a wild card spot.

That was an especially pertinent phrase for the club’s lineup that was held hitless at the start of the week, limited to four combined runs in its last two losses and is still without the two players that were expected to carry it. In three games against the Royals, though, the Rangers meshed a newfound mastery of small ball with a sudden ability to slug at Globe Life Field, a knack for timely hits and a penchant for early offense to score more runs at home than any three-game series since last summer.

The Rangers scored four runs in the first inning of Sunday’s win, each of which was plated with two outs, thanks to a jolt from the middle of their batting order. Third baseman Josh Jung reached on a one-out double against Royals right-hander Michael Wacha before first baseman Jake Burger took a five-pitch walk two at-bats later. Shortstop Ezequiel Duran, who carded a walk-off hit the night before, then crushed a triple off the left field wall to score both. Left fielder Alejandro Osuna drove in Duran with a slap single and scored their fourth run on a Higashioka double.

They scored at least one run in the first inning of each game against the Royals and are now 22-5 this season when they score first.

“It definitely helps when you can score early and score first,” Jung said. “It’s definitely a recipe for success, scoring first.”

So is offensive diversity. Higashioka led off the fourth inning with a single, and with second baseman Nicky Lopez at the plate, the Rangers perfectly executed a hit-and-run to advance the runner to second base with nobody out. Center fielder Michael Helman then laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Higashioka to third base and Lopez to second, and after designated hitter Joc Pederson was intentionally walked to load the bases, Jung pulled a single into left field that scored two more runs.

Higashioka, whose sprint speed is one of baseball’s slowest, acknowledged that he can’t remember the last time he was the runner in a hit-and-run.

“We’re putting the ball on the ground,” he said, “and letting good things happen.”

Said Schumaker: “I feel like the top of the order was definitely slugging and the bottom of the order was manufacturing to get back to the top to slug. You mix in a couple of really big hits, like Higgy did today and Osuna did today, and that’s how you put up four, five, six runs.”

It allowed Leiter, who struck out 10 batters in 5 2/3 scoreless innings, a cushion to operate. Leiter, Rocker and Gore combined for 18 shutout innings against the Royals,  and after a start to the season in which the rotation had allowed more first-inning runs than any other staff league-wide, it provided a welcome complement to the offense’s early attack with shutdown frames.

“Just for the vibes alone, when the offense is going, it’s a fun place to be in that dugout and clubhouse,” Leiter said. “It seems like we’re kind of getting it going as a whole one-through-nine.”

File that under “phrases that weren’t spoken Friday morning.”

“It didn’t looked great at the time,” Schumaker said, “but, you know me, I’m just trying to win the first day. It’s important to win the first day after a tough start to the homestand and then you hopefully carry it over into the next day.”
