The Toronto Blue Jays can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries.
On Sunday, in a game against the Baltimore Orioles, Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez ended up exiting the game after a ball thrown from the stands hit him in the right wrist.

Sanchez was playing catch with a child in the stands. A miscommunication with the fan led to Sanchez turning away from the throw back, which led to the ball hitting his wrist.
Toronto was losing the game 6-0 at the time of Sanchez’s exit and ultimately lost the game 9-5. The Blue Jays ended up splitting the four-game series with their American League East foes with the loss.
Toronto had a day off Monday following the series against Baltimore before heading to Truist Park in Atlanta for a three-game series against the team with the best record in the National League, the Atlanta Braves.
Sanchez was absent from the lineup Tuesday. According to a series of injury updates posted on “X” by Sportsnet reporter Ben Nicholson-Smith, Sanchez is currently day-to-day.
The Blue Jays seem to have avoided a worst-case scenario with Sanchez’s freak injury, which is good news for the rest of the season for the team.

Toronto is currently third in the AL East behind the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees. The former of the two currently has the best record in the American League.
Sanchez has been one of the few bright spots of the season for the Blue Jays.
Toronto acquired Sanchez in a trade with the Houston Astros on Feb. 13 in return for outfielder Joey Loperfido.
The Blue Jays represented the third team Sanchez was on in the past year. He began 2025 with the Miami Marlins before being dealt to the Houston Astros on July 31, 2025. He had a .199 batting average and a .611 OPS in 48 games with Houston.
Sanchez finished last season with an overall slash line of .237/.304/.395 in 134 total games with the Marlins and Astros.

Sanchez had spent the entirety of his major league career with Miami before being traded. He made his major league debut in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. He was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2014, but was traded to the Marlins on July 31, 2019.
The 28-year-old outfielder earned a starting role with Toronto coming out of spring and is putting together a career-best season. In 57 games, Sanchez has slashed .287/.324/.461 with a .785 OPS and has hit 11 doubles and six home runs with 28 RBIs.
