► FOLLOW ALONG

• The Pirates take the series with a 5-1 win over the Astros. Jones threw five scoreless innings and Mlodzinski followed with four innings of one-run ball in relief. O’Hearn drove in three runs, including two on a homer in a four-run sixth inning.

• Trammell leads off the ninth with a single into shallow right. O’Hearn couldn’t make the sliding catch.

• Bryan Abreu strikes out three of the four batters he faces in the ninth. Mlodzinski heads back out to finish this one.

• Alvarez flies out to left and Walker grounds out 4-3 to end the threat.

• Back-to-back singles off Mlodzinski puts two on with one out for Alvarez. Mangum almost caught that second single from Peña. Trapped it and was able to keep it from getting by him.

• Pirates down in order in the seventh.

• Mlodzinski retires the next three batters he faces to limit the damage to one run.

• HOME RUN: Paredes gets a four-seam fastball at the top of the zone and homers to left off Mlodzinski. Pirates, 5-1

• Carmen Mlodzinski gets the sixth.

• RUN: Triolo reaches on a Peña error that allows Gonzales to score from second. Pirates, 5-0

• Four straight hits and that’s it for Teng. Steven Okert enters here in the sixth.

• HOME RUN: O’Hearn gets a first-pitch fastball and sends it over the wall in right. Two-run shot is his ninth of the season. Pirates, 4-0

• RUN: Pirates generate another run in the same way that they did in the first inning. Lowe leads off the inning with a double and scores on a Reynolds single. Pirates, 2-0

• Second double of the night for Lowe leads off the sixth.

• Jones gets Walker to fly out to right and he completes five scoreless at 74 pitches.

• Jones gets the first two outs on seven pitches before allowing a two-out double to Alvarez.

• Runners stranded on second and third after Triolo’s weak popout and a Horwitz’s groundout.

• Pirates have runners on second and third after a walk to Cruz and a one-out double by Mangum. Latter fouled off some tough pitches before sending a sweeper way inside down the right-field line.

• Price flies out to right and the Astros strand their runner at second.

• Another 1-2-3 inning for Teng. Eight straight retired.

• Paredes flies out to center to end the third. Jones at 55 pitches over three innings.

• Jones falls behind Walker and leaves a 2-1 slider over the plate. Results in a two-out single to left.

• Lowe just caught a 115 mph missile off the bat of Alvarez. Huge play to catch that liner for the second out of the third.

• Two easier innings for Teng after that 25-pitch first. Sets down the Pirates in order in the third.

• And Allen pops out to second to strand the runner at second. Jones is sitting at 43 pitches over two innings. He threw 77 pitches over 4 1/3 innings in his first start.

• After review, it’s ruled a balk.

• This is under review.

• Now the umpires are gathering, even after Kelly left the field.

• Jones is called for a balk after walking Price and now Kelly is out to talk to second-base umpire Louie Krupa.

• Jones is really bringing it. Significant increases in velo with all four of his pitches. Almost a three mph difference in slider velo. Averaging over 91.

• Cruz reaches on a leadoff walk and is immediately wiped out on a 4-3 double play. Guess he assumed that was on the ground rather than on a line. Easily doubled off of first.

• Jones gets two more strikeouts with the changeup to strand two runners. He had to throw 25 pitches there, but a nice way to come away unscathed.

• Jones with a nice bounceback against Walker. Mixed in some sliders, some triple-digit fastballs and then finished him with a nice curveball.

• Astros have two on after the single by Peña and now a four-pitch walk to Alvarez. Maybe that was unintentionally intentional.

• Jones, who landed kinda awkwardly on that throw to first, is now getting a visit from Kelly and the trainer. He throws a few practice pitches and stays in the game.

• Teng strikes out Gonzales to strand O’Hearn at first, but the Pirates made him work in the first. Needed 25 pitches right out of the gate.

• RUN: The Pirates get on the board first on an RBI single up the middle by O’Hearn. Followed a Lowe double. Pirates, 1-0
