Roster moves

The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.

Recalled from Triple-A Reno: RHP Cristian Mena

Optioned to Reno following Saturday’s game: RHP Scott McGough

With Ryne Nelson moving back to the bullpen (and I must admit I’m not entirely on board with that decision), but likely out of commission for a bit after his extended outing last night, I imagine Mena will be used as long relief for now. He has been a starter in Reno (4.84 ERA), and we did see him once earlier this year, working 3.2 scoreless inning after Eduardo Rodriguez blew up (no, the other time. No, the other other time) – that was the infamous 14-11 loss to the Dodgers. With the day off tomorrow, we won’t need a fifth starter for a bit, so might as well use the extra spot for another bullpen arm until the roster place is required.

The D-backs have now lost consecutive series at home to teams with losing records, which is not good. They’re now only at .500 (10-10) against teams below .500, and are a dismal 1-9 over their last ten. That’s tied with the Athletics and Rockies as worst in the majors. Not good, and I’m finding it harder to remain optimistic. It’s not as if we’re crippled by injuries right now, unless you think Eduardo Rodriguez is our savior. We’ll see if Arizona can at least avoid the sweep this afternoon. I won’t be about to see it, as Mrs. S and I are off for lunch at Casino Arizona followed by an Abba tribute band. So we’re going to have a good time, something D-backs performances haven’t provided much of late!

[Editorial note] I’m off back to Britain tomorrow, so Gameday Threads might be a little spartan through a week Tuesday. We’ll be eight hours ahead of Arizona time, so if line-ups aren’t available by 3pm or so in AZ, I won’t be including them. Indeed, any meaningful information will be dependent on the wifi situation. Which should be fine for the first few days when we’re in London. But I then head home to Scotland where my father (who turns 90 in October) is keeper of the Internet, and the house has thick stone walls. The builders inexplicably did not take the need for 5G signals into account when it went up in 1815. So, who can say? tl;dr – There will be GDTs, but I make no guarantees about their contents!
