PITCHER
Stud
Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City Royals ($9,800) — Ryan has been magnifique this season. Through 70.1 innings, the FIP is 2.78, K-BB% is 23% and he’s allowed only six home runs. He’s put up over 20 FPTS in eight of 13 starts with a high of 31.1 FPTS. He faces a Royals team that is 24th in ISO, 27th in wOBA and 26th in wRC+.
Value
Zack Littell, Washington Nationals at Arizona Diamondbacks ($5,700) — The season-long stats for Littell are vomit inducing – 6.22 FIP, 6.2% K-BB%, 15 home runs allowed in 59.1 innings, an average exit velocity of 92.5 mph and a barrel rate of 11.3%. Where’s the bucket? Most of that damage happened earlier in the season. In the last four starts, the FIP is 3.02, K-BB% is 13.2% and he’s allowed only one home run in 23 innings. That translates to at least 14 FPTS in each of those contest with a high of 27.6 FPTS. He pitched five, five, seven and six innings over that span. Arizona doesn’t strikeout often but the Diamondbacks are 23rd in wOBA and 22nd in wRC+.
INFIELD
Stud
Nick Kurtz, Athletics at Houston Astros ($5,700) — Kurtz has 11 home runs, 40 runs, 43 RBI and six stolen bases in 277 plate appearances. The average exit velocity is 94.3 mph, barrel rate is 18.2% and the bat speed is 78.1 mph! Those are all massive numbers. Now he gets to face Tatsuya Imai, who has a 7.39 FIP and 0% K-BB% against lefties. Kurtz has put up at least 14 FPTS in four of the last six games with a high of 24 FPTS.
Value
Nathan Lukes, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles ($2,600) — Since rejoining the team on May 25, Lukes has put up at least 3 FPTS in every contest, with four over 10 FPTS. The strikeout rate is only 12.8% while the slash is .455/.526/.606. Now, it’s fueled by a .519 BABIP, so this heater is obviously unsustainable. That said, he batted leadoff or second in seven of nine games.
OUTFIELD
Stud
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros vs. Athletics ($6,100) — Alvarez has 21 home runs, 41 runs, 44 RBI and a stolen base in 276 plate appearances. The slash is .316/.428/.649 with a 14.9% walk rate, 17.4% strikeout rate and .333 ISO. The average exit velocity is 94.7 mph, barrel rate is 13.8% and the bat speed is 75.9 mph. L. O. L.
Value
Thomas Saggese, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds ($2,100) — It’s only 28 plate appearances, but Saggese has a 111 wRC+ and .208 ISO against left-handed pitching. The strikeout rate is 32.1%, but the walk rate is 14.3%. Nick Lodolo used to be a whiff machine, but the K-BB% is only 9.2% against righties with a 6.97 FIP.
