The Dodgers erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the first and cruised to a 9-2 victory on Saturday night. Yoshinobu Yamamoto set down 22 straight batters and allowed just one run on two hits in eight strong innings while Andy Pages and Shohei Ohtani belted two-run home runs during the big first inning.
Oswald Peraza’s RBI triple spotted the Angels a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before the Dodgers unloaded off starter Jack Kochanowicz, who allowed seven runs (six earned) while retiring just one batter before getting the hook. Zach Neto homered in the ninth to close the scoring. The Angels placed outfielder/DH Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique on Saturday and activated first baseman Nolan Schanuel, who had been out since May 23 with an ankle injury.
Right-hander Emmet Sheehan (3-2) closes the series on the mound for the Dodgers, entering play with a 4.50 ERA and 1.155 WHIP in 11 starts and 58 innings while striking out 62. Right-hander José Soriano (6-4) takes the ball for the Angels, coming in with a 2.72 ERA and 1.211 WHIP in 76 innings with 85 strikeouts. Soriano is 1-4 with a 5.17 ERA over his last seven starts.
