ST. LOUIS – While many people spent Sunday searching for shade, thousands of sports fans across the St. Louis area headed straight into the heat.
With the Cardinals at home, the Battlehawks in action, and the Bommarito 500 bringing IndyCar racing across the river, fans say a hot day wasn’t going to keep them away.

Summer made itself known that it’s right around the corner in St. Louis this weekend. But despite the heat and humidity, sports fans weren’t backing down. For many, the chance to catch a game or race in person was worth every drop of sweat.
“You know what? I’ll take it. Any day that I can watch the Cardinal game, I really don’t care what the temp is like,” one young fan said. “So, if it gets a little warm, hey, it’s alright. I only get to see a couple games a year.”
St. Louis homeowners break even in 9.8 years, above average
It was a busy sports weekend across the region, with fans packing into Busch Stadium and other venues under bright sun and rising temperatures. Outside the ballpark, people came prepared.

“To me? It’s typical St. Louis weather. The humidity. I mean, just plenty of towels and a lot of water and Gatorade,” another fan said.
Staying hydrated was also a boost for businesses around Ballpark Village. A beverage cart worker posted outside of Katie’s Pizza told FOX 2, “A lot of people today and yesterday even have been getting a lot of water, a lot of beer sales, a lot of hydration stuff because it’s just so hot out here that a lot of people have been coming by.”
Inside Busch Stadium, fans can find water fountains and hydration stations this season to help beat the heat, but outside, most say a little summer sun is just part of the price for a St. Louis sports weekend. And don’t forget the SPF!
