I actually went upstairs to my bedroom to make sure the windows were secured and down and curtains closed and things, and I looked out and I saw the limbs shifting back and forth. Then moments after. I heard *** loud crack and I come back to the window and the limb was down. Charles says he’s grateful it just hit *** few bushes. It’s just amazing how the limbs have fallen beyond the wiring but never touched it. But others caught in the storm’s path weren’t so lucky. In Lancaster City, Neighbors say *** driver escaped being hurt after getting trapped under this tree while driving on Vine Street. Residents now working to clean up what the storm left behind, I got to get my hands dirty. It’s mine. I got to take care of it. *** lot of cleanup will be happening today. That was Taylor Hess reporting in Lancaster County. *** tree fell blocking off *** road and landing on *** newlywed couple’s car. Owen and Grace Lapp of Allentown say they just got married hours before this happened around 7 on Roarstown Road in East Hempfield Township. They say the tree came down on *** mailbox and on Owen’s car there, and you can see the car *** second ago. He was supposed to drive them back to Allentown later last night. We came back and we just saw that the road was closed, we couldn’t get in and went to go the other way and realized that the tree was like literally right in front of his parents’ house. Just split right there and PPL’s outage map showed the tree affected nearly 1000 customers, closing the road and knocking out power to surrounding businesses. And let’s take *** look right now at PPL. About 1000 PPL customers don’t have power in Lancaster and Dauphin counties after yesterday’s storms. This happened on Mercersburg Road just before 6:30 yesterday. First responders say two vehicles crashed into each other and caught fire. The MMPW Volunteer Fire Company says 3 medical helicopters transported patients, and an ambulance took another person to the hospital. State police are investigating the crash. Business in our nation’s capital is ramping up this week. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are preparing for *** critical week for immigration funding, where the fight to push President Donald Trump’s agenda now shifts to the House. Our Washington correspondent Amy Liu live for us this morning. And Amy, what are lawmakers in the chamber considering? Regina, we know that the House is planning to reconvene starting tomorrow and it’s expected to take up this $70 billion reconciliation bill funding immigration enforcement. You may recall last week this is the same bill that the Senate approved. Now if it passes the House, this essentially would fund President Trump’s mass deportation agenda for the rest of his term in the White House. This reconciliation bill, it would hand over $30 billion to border ICE operations and then billions more to customs and Border Patrol by essentially prepaying the Department of Homeland Security through 2029 with virtually no guard rails and directives on how the money is spent. The measure passed the Senate largely along party lines last week following *** marathon. Debate on proposed amendments. The reconciliation package does not have any language barring the administration for creating *** $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund that is designed to pay people who they believe were unfairly targeted by the federal government, but some GOP moderates, they’re still pushing for that language to be included. Remember, with such *** tight majority in the House, every. Republican vote matters, so it is possible that we see some movement when it comes to that. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch previously told lawmakers that the administration would not be moving forward with the fund, though again without any sort of restrictions in this bill, that option legally remains open for now. Regina and Amy, the House is making headlines after passing *** bill that makes cuts to *** federal food program. Right so the House passed this appropriations bill, essentially it cuts millions of dollars in funding for fruit and vegetable benefits for children, pregnant women, as well as postpartum one and that’s according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Republicans are saying that the $8 billion left in this fund is more than enough for the program, but advocates are saying that this move will further cut access when it comes. To these fresh foods, especially with grocery prices now going up due to the war in Iran. Now this bill funding the Agriculture Department and several other agencies has only passed the House. Keep in mind here that the Senate will still have to take it up and possibly make some changes to it before *** final vote. Regina and Amy, we’re also watching the Supreme Court with *** number of high profile cases that’s still waiting for decisions. What are some of them? Yes, so we know that the Supreme Court is going to be issuing some more decisions coming this week that includes, for example, one on birthright citizenship coming from the president’s executive order as well as the reach of executive power when it comes to civil rights and voting. The court will be deciding if states can legally ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. Also whether states can legally count mail-in ballots after election day. Other cases are looking at stripping temporary protected status. for certain immigrants as well as gun rights when it comes to drug users and legally carrying uh those guns in certain public places. Now turning to some traffic headlines for us this morning, we do want to tell you about *** couple road work projects starting this week. Tonight in Dauphin County, Pendot says there will be *** lane restriction at the Route 322 and Chambers Hill Road intersection in Swaterra Township. That project will be open access to Hilton Street from westbound 322 and work on the new into Milroy Road or the new tie into Milroy Road. Work starts at 9 o’clock tonight. There’s also going to be overnight paving on 322 in the area through Thursday. Pendat says the Route 322 Chambers Hill Road exit and entry will be down to *** single lane with flaggers. Also on 3:22, crews will close lanes to replace utility poles. This work is between Coco Avenue. Avenue in Derry Township, Dauphin County, and South Forge Road in South Londonderry Township in Lebanon County. Works set for 9 to 3 each day starting tomorrow, and that’s going to run until June 17th. Also, Pendo Cruz set to replace part of *** bridge in Perry County tomorrow. Crews will be working on the Route 34 bridge over Trout Run in Center Township. This is on Spring Road, and Pendot says there will be *** lane restriction. All of the work is expected to be completed by the end of September. It is 6:10 and tomorrow the alliance of bikers aimed toward Education are set to rally for motorcycle safety. The group is set to ride to the state Capitol complex tomorrow morning and then meet with lawmakers to talk about rider rights and bills impacting the motorcycling community. Commonwealth Avenue outside the state Capitol will be closed from 9:15 to 1:30 tomorrow. *** bill to improve hospital security in Pennsylvania is making its way through the state legislature in Harrisburg. That bill could create *** hospital security grant fund for nonprofit hospitals. Hospitals could apply for *** maximum of $150,000 in grants each year that could go towards funding. Sing trauma kits, metal detectors, and security threat assessments. State Representative Tom Mahaffey of Dauphin County says the bill was created in response to the deadly shooting and hostage situation in February of 2025 at UPMC Memorial Hospital in Manchester Township, York County. It will put them over the top. I think it’s an initiative first of doing the assessment. Once you see the assessment, you’re going to go as *** hospital administrator, OK, there’s something I gotta do here, and it can be simple. It can be as simple as moving *** dumpster. You know, we saw this when we did the school grants. And the bill was approved by the House Health Committee this past week. Some hospital networks have already taken their own steps internally. Wellspan Health, for example, established *** private police department that will operate alongside its existing security teams. Visitors and staff must also pass through upgraded scanning systems in all facilities.
