The Minnesota Twins season is suddenly spiraling, and at 31-39, manager Derek Shelton and his new squad of misfits are in danger of losing any semblance of hope to turn the season around.

And now, a red-hot 37-29 St. Louis Cardinals — fresh off having a six-game win streak snapped on Thursday in heartbreak fashion against the Mets — is in town for a weekend series that could dig the Twins into an even deeper hole.

But the product on the field isn’t all the Pohlads have to worry about this summer, when it comes to their family-owned Major League Baseball.

Minnesota Twins concession workers announce strike

On Thursday, concession workers at Target Field announced a planned strike for June 22, when the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be in town for what’s expected to be one of the busier weekends out at the old ballpark in downtown Minneapolis all summer.

The union is accusing the Twins’ vending partner at Target Field ‘Delaware North Co’ of refusing to negotiate in good faith over healthcare and wage increase demands they’ve been trying to bargain for.

So… Target Field concession workers plan to go on strike next weekend (June 22), when the Los Angeles Dodgers come to town.

According to the union rep and Delaware North employees who spoke Thursday, the only concession the concession company has made so far is a small pay increase of $0.50 for an unknown minority of their mostly minimum-wage workforce.

There was another round of negotiations scheduled for Thursday, after the rally, but union leaders did not seem hopeful of there being any sort of resolution going into that meeting.

Twins claim this is not their fight

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins claim this is an issue between Delaware North and its employees, which the union does not agree with in the slightest. Delaware North released a statement to FOX 9 (KMSP) — who recorded the original video above — essentially accusing their workers of being greedy toward their non-profit endeavors.

“We look forward to continuing to negotiate in good faith a new contract with our valued employees at Target Field. It is our full intention that we will continue full-service concessions at Target Field should there be a strike.

“If UNITE HERE’s greed insists on displacing nonprofit fundraising, we believe the community will be deeply impacted. The decades-long partnerships we have with community groups that depend on concessions at Target Field for fundraising is something that reflect the values of the fans and residents of Minnesota.”
