The season came to an end for the Tewksbury High softball team last week when the Redmen fell to Milford in the opening round of the Div. 2 state tournament by a 7-3 score.

Seeded 16th with a re­cord of 11-9 during the re­gular season, hosted 17th-seeded Milford, who en­tered the game with a 9-11 mark.

The game was tight for most of the day until Mil­ford scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to break open a 4-3 contest.

Gabriella Davis pitched a complete game for TMHS, allowing only two earned runs while striking out four and walking two.

Four errors proved costly for the Redmen.

Lauren Williams threw the first 4.2 innings for Milford and Avery Macchi tossed the final 2.1 in relief.

On offense, the Redmen totaled eight hits and drew seven walks, but simply couldn’t string enough hits together.

Down 2-0 after the top of the first, Tewksbury re­sponded quickly.

In the bottom of the first, Chloe Veator smack­ed a leadoff triple and scored when Kayliegh Mar­tin hit a sacrifice fly.

Lila Areias followed with a base hit, but was stranded.

The Redmen had another chance in the second.

Isabella Lane hit a leadoff single and Davis walked before a pop up and two strikeouts ended the threat.

TMHS had another scoring chance in the fourth.

Sophia Cappiello walked and Lane singled with no­body out before Williams recorded three consecutive strikeouts.

The sequence seemed to spark Milford, who scored twice in the top of the fifth for a 4-1 advantage.

Tewksbury once again battled back in the home half of the fifth.

With one out, Martin singled and Areias doubled.

A sacrifice fly by Juli­anna Cappiello made it 4-2 and a wild pitch plated Areias to cut the lead to one.

In the sixth inning, Mil­ford added three more runs behind a walk, an er­ror and two more hits.

This time, Tewksbury didn’t have an answer.

Veator doubled with one out and Areias walked with two out, but a ground out ended the frame.

The Redmen, as always, didn’t quit.

In the seventh, Cappiello led off with a base hit and Davis walked with one out, but a strikeout and a ground out ended the game and Tewksbury’s season.

Veator, Areias and Lane had two hits apiece for TMHS with Areias and Lane also drawing walks.

Davis drew three bases on balls and Cappiello had a hit and walked twice.

Milford lost to top-seeded King Philip in its next game, 7-0.

King Philip was scheduled to play in the state semifinals against Shep­herd Hill on Wednesday.
