WATERTOWN — What proved to be a marathon game between the Watertown Rapids and Rochester Ridgemen didn’t result in a winner on Saturday.

The two teams battled for nearly four hours, with the Rapids and Ridgemen finishing in a 10-10 tie through 10 innings in a New York Collegiate Baseball League game played before a turnout of 225 at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.

Trailing 7-4, Watertown (5-3-1) generated six runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-7 lead.

The rally was keyed by an RBI single from Sam Finarelli, a two-run single from Will Harrison and a run scoring single from Peyton Adams. Also in the frame, one run scored on an error and another came home on a wild pitch.

But Rochester (2-5-1) responded in the top of the eighth as Jake Gunning slugged a three-run home run to tie the game at 10-all.

The Rapids would advance a runner to third base in each of the final three innings, but would fail to score.

In the 10th inning, Tommy Ocasal was hit by pitch to lead off the bottom of the frame, went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a passed ball, but after a strikeout a Watertown batter popped out to third base to end the threat.

In the top of the 10th, Brody Winemiller drew a two-out walk, but Rect Shirakata struck out pinch hitter Aaron Newcomb for the final out.

Shirakata, one of five Rapids pitchers on the day, pitched the final two innings.

Tyler Sovie started for Watertown and allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings.

At the plate, Grant Bazinet doubled, singled and drove in a run and Nate Figueroa tripled and singled twice, with both scoring a pair of runs for the Rapids.

Osacal, Harrison, Adams and Soichiro Hanawa each totaled a pair of hits, with Osacal and Harrison each knocking in two runs.

Adams also scored on a flyout to center by Scott LaMountain in the first inning, Bazinet doubled in a run in the third and Ocasal followed with a two-run single in the fifth.

JD Whitworth hit a grand-slam home run in the fourth inning for Rochester, Gunning also tripled and scored two runs and Cael Allen hit three singles and also scored two runs.

The game was played in three hours and 45 minutes after the Rapids defeated Syracuse, 4-1, on Friday night in a game played in Watertown.

Per league rules, all games which are tied through 10 innings officially end as a tie.

After playing at Rochester at 5 p.m. Sunday, Watertown will return to host Rochester at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
