Central Texas high school baseball teams Lake Travis and Rouse won Game 1 of their best-of-three state semifinals series Thursday in the UIL playoffs. Dripping Springs and Wimberley both lost. Game 2s are Friday.

In a game that took less than 80 minutes, Cooper Webb tossed a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts and the Cavs scored eight runs in the first inning as they rolled to a dominant five-inning win in their Class 6A Division I series. Ethan Schlotterback’s RBI triple and run-scoring singles from Nelson Molina and Elliott Proppe highlighted Lake Travis’ opening onslaught, which also included seven walks, an error and James Tudor’s sacrifice fly. Luke McBride and Kyle Brauchle had sacrifice flies later in the contest for the Cavs, who took advantage of six Bulldogs errors.
Cruz McBride hit a two-run single and Bobby Wilkinson, Hayden Smith and Breydan Madeley all dove in runs for the Tigers in the Game 1 loss of their Class 6A Division II series. Jake Pardue finished 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored in other notable performances for Dripping Springs. Dillon Norris hit a three-run homer, Jake Earnest went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs and Tanner Drda finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Mustangs.
Joe Bury went 2-for-3 with a walk, triple and two RBIs and Jacob Soliz and Liam Mongold hit back-to-back solo home runs as the Raiders moved within one win of the Class 5A Division I state championship game. Scott Knight and Cristian Caro ripped RBI singles as part of a four-run first inning for Rouse, which received six innings from Jacob Sainz on the mound. Soliz added a late RBI groundout to finish with two runs driven in.
Alex Abrusley had an RBI single, Sage Hall finished with two hits and both Jayden Hall and Maverick Jacobs belted doubles for the Texans in the loss to open the Class 4A Division II series. Cason Helper went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Rockets.
