It wasn’t a successful homestand for the Giants after finishing 2-4, but they ended things on a high note with a 5-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday at Oracle Park.

Two of San Francisco’s star players also stayed hot during the team’s six games in the Bay — veteran pitcher Logan Webb and rookie slugger Bryce Eldridge, both of whom joined some impressive Giants company with their recent performances.

After a dominant, eight-inning outing in the Giants’ unfortunate loss to the Washington Nationals on Monday, Webb returned to the mound Sunday and went another eight strong against the Cubs. Webb didn’t walk a batter in either start, placing him in rarified air with franchise icons Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain, as shared by MLB’s Sarah Langs.

While Webb gets it done on the hill, Eldridge has continued to come into his own at the plate. With his walk in the fifth inning Sunday, the youngster added his name to the list of Giants players 21 or younger to reach base in 20 or more consecutive games.

Eldridge can match Giants icon Willie McCovey if he reaches in each of his next five games.

After Sunday’s win, the Giants certainly hope to take some momentum — plus the streaks by Webb and Eldridge — into their six game road trip, which begins Tuesday against the Braves in Atlanta.
