The Los Angeles Angels placed right-hander Grayson Rodriguez on the injured list after his early exit in Sunday’s game.

Rodriguez’s move was one of several the Angels made, also selecting the contract of right-hander Brett Kerry and recalling Jose Fermin from Triple-A while designating reliever Drew Pomeranz for assignment.

Rodriguez spent the first month and a half of the 2026 season on the injured list, and only made six starts before heading back to the IL with low back inflammation. He had a 8.06 ERA throughout his six starts, allowing multiple runs in all but one of them.

The Angels signed Pomeranz to reinforce their struggling bullpen over the offseason, but the left-hander has done more harm than good this season. He has a 5.01 ERA through 25 appearances so far this year, and only struck out 16 batters across his outings.

Additionally, he is 0-for-2 in his two save attempts.

Who Are Brett Kerry and Jose Fermin?

Fermin is a familiar face for the Angels, as he has routinely bounced between Triple-A and MLB this season. His last appearance with the Angels came at the beginning of one, when he allowed five earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched against the Colorado Rockies.

He has made 16 appearances for the Angels, posting a 5.40 ERA, but has shown plenty of promise throughout the season. The right-hander has done well since going back down to the minors, allowing just one earned run through five innings of work.

Kerry, a 2021 fifth-round pick, has spent all of his career in the Angels’ organization, and is finally getting his shot aged 27. Kerry, a right-handed starter, has made 14 appearances for Triple-A Salt Lake this year, posting a 5.92 ERA through 62.1 innings pitched.

Take those numbers with a grain of salt, though, as the Athletics have showcased how easy it is to hit in a Pacific Coast League park over the last season and a half.

The Angels will hope their roster shuffle can finally put their pitching concerns to rest as they try to drag themselves out of last place in the AL West.
