OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Over the years, huge crowds at the downtown ballpark didn’t always translate to big spending in the Old Market.
Many baseball fans didn’t stray too far from Baseball Village and the Old Mattress Factory.
All year, the Old Market is a hub for tourism but this time of the year brings even more visitors to the metro.
Between the College World Series, the National Sheriff’s Convention and youth baseball tournaments, nearly half a million visitors made their way to the metro this past weekend.
“This is a great season, we love CWS being in Omaha and all the conferences going on,” said Table Coffee Co. owner Chris Ford. “So we are grateful for that.”
In the last month, she has noticed more folks stopping by. A busy weekend full of events only added to those totals.
“We had our busiest day ever yesterday and we celebrated it was our all time high so we were really grateful,” she said. “I would say every day has been up from about anywhere 20 to 40% of our regular revenue.”
Down the street, Made in Omaha has also seen more visitors coming in for a souvenir to take back home. From custom t-shirts, prints and more.
“We have been supporting every team that has been walking in through the door,” said co-owner Corey Hall. “Just trying to connect with everybody coming into town.”
Another boost in walk ins have come from the World Cup. Omaha is not a host city, but many passing through have stopped by to grab a gift.
“I have definitely seen people that have been coming in that are on their way to Kansas City,” said Hall. “We had some people coming in who are Argentina fans who will be going to the game tomorrow.”
Both businesses hope a busy weekend will translate into a profitable summer.
