ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Georgia Bulldogs kept their College World Series championship hopes alive Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over Texas in an elimination game at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
The third-seeded Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie when Tre Phelps drove in the game’s first run with an RBI double.
Georgia added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Rylan Lujo. Texas left fielder Adrian Rodriguez made the catch near the left-field line but collided with Anthony Pack Jr. before making his throw home, allowing Ryan Black to score from third and extend the Bulldogs’ lead to 2-0.
With the victory, Georgia advances to Wednesday’s semifinals against Oklahoma. The Bulldogs must beat the Sooners twice to earn a spot in the best-of-three College World Series championship series, which begins Saturday.
