Sophomore Alexis Campbell had a strong showing for Grand Junction, scoring seven times and assisting on an additional goal to lead her team with eight points. Junior Emma Grabau scored three times as well, but the offensive output from both was not enough for Grand Junction to hold off the Hawks.
BASEBALL
Central defeated Montrose 3-2 in nine innings on Tuesday via a walk-off walk.
Down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, freshman Tyrus Kellerby worked a one-out single and entered scoring position thanks to a two-out single by Trevor Ziek. Bryce Caldwell’s RBI double scored Kellerby with the tying run and forcing extra innings.
Two innings later, Kellerby again reached base via a lead-off walk, and after back-to-back singles from Octavio Gallegos and Ziek, Kellerby was 90 feet away from scoring the go-ahead run.
This time, he didn’t have to run home, just walk — Caldwell drew a free pass on only four pitches with the bases loaded, allowing Kellerby to score the winning run.
