The Texas Rangers Little League team of Rockport, Texas, recently concluded an exciting and rewarding season. Composed of players ranging in age from 7 to 10 years old, the team showed great improvement, strong teamwork, and most importantly, a love for the game.

Many of the young athletes shared their thoughts about the season, what they’ve learned, and what makes their team special.

Ashton, age 7, played his first year of baseball and had one clear highlight. “I liked winning,” he said with a big smile. He plans to return next season.

Dean McDavid, 10, who has been playing baseball for six years, said, “I like having fun, winning, and just making new friends. This team has been great.” When asked what he liked most about the team, he added, “We have a great team with a good attitude.”

Nine-year-old Barrett Sparks has been playing since he was three and currently pitches for the team. “I just like making new friends and having fun,” he said. He tallied 46 strikeouts this season, a major accomplishment for any young pitcher.

Dominic Abel, 10, said his favorite part of the season was having good teammates. “It’s very fun,” he said. “Teamwork matters because if we throw the ball to each other well, we can get outs and then score more runs.”

Several players also expressed appreciation for their coach, Mike Sparks, who not only led the team but also coached his son. “He’s nice and fun,” said one player. “He doesn’t yell unless someone has a bad attitude.”

Coach Sparks, age 38, said the team may not have been the biggest or most experienced, but they had the best attitude and effort. “We trusted the process,” he said. “We’re not going to win the league, but we’re tying for first place, and no one expected that from us.”

Coaching his son was especially meaningful for Sparks. “It’s a blessing,” he said. “There are challenges, you’re usually harder on your kid, but it’s a special time that I’ll always cherish.”

As the season comes to an end, the players are already thinking about next year. Whether it’s pitching, hitting, or just being with friends, it’s clear these kids have found something special on the field.

The Rockport-Fulton community is proud of the Texas Rangers Little League team for their hard work, positive spirit, and sportsmanship. Congratulations on a great season.
