Ragans moved to 60-day injured list as Royals shut him down from throwing

  • June 18, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals left-hander Cole Ragans was placed on the 60-day injured list for the second year in a row on Wednesday.

The move comes as Ragans continues to deal with what the Royals have called left elbow impingement.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Thursday Ragans got checked out on Wednesday as the club remains in the information gathering phase for the injury.

“He’s still having symptoms,” Quatraro said of Ragans, who has a 1-4 record and 4.84 ERA in eight starts this season for Kansas City. “He’s still shut down from throwing, so we’ve gotta come together with a plan here in the next few days.”

Ragans spent much of last summer on the 60-day injured list after dealing with a shoulder issue that began in June of 2025. The left-hander who Kansas City acquired from the Texas Rangers in 2023 had Tommy John surgery earlier in his career and has only eclipsed 15 starts twice in his five-year career.

Matt Quatraro’s with an update on Cole Ragans:

“Still kind of in the information gathering stage … He’s still having symptoms. He’s still shut down from throwing, so we need to come together with a plan here in the next few days.”

“Every day that goes by is one less day of the season,” Quatraro said. “I know for him with as hard as he works and as hard as he prepares himself mentally and physically it’s really frustrating. You feel for guys when they’re injured.”

As Ragans remains on the injured list, so too, does left-hander Kris Bubic. Thursday night, Seth Lugo will return from the concussion list to make a start against the St. Louis Cardinals.
