AUBURN — After a pair of victories over the Newark Pilots in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Geneva Red Wings were aiming for a third victory in a row on Sunday evening when they traveled to play the Auburn Doubledays on Father’s Day.
The Red Wings were able to extend their current winning streak following a tight 1-0 victory over the Doubledays.
Geneva (4-10) scored the game’s lone run in the top of the ninth inning.
With Red Wings catcher Kaden Coutts up to bat with one out, teammate Connor McGoush scored on a wild pitch from Auburn’s Sam McKay to give Geneva the decisive 1-0 lead in the final inning.
While McKay suffered the loss, Noah Company picked up the win in relief for the Red Wings as he threw 0.2 innings while getting some important outs during the eighth inning.
Joshua Litsky came in and secured the save for Geneva, which ended with a game-winning strikeout looking for Litsky against Auburn’s Nacho Gonzales on the final pitch of the game with runners on first and second base.
Pitcher Tyler Arno started the game for the Red Wings. The Geneva High School graduate threw five shutout innings while only allowing two hits during his stint on the mound.
McGoush led Geneva on offense by going 2-for-3 with a double from the left fielder.
Auburn (9-5) was led by catcher Jonathan Griggs, who went 2-for-4 in the contest.
The Red Wings stay on the road for their next game as they aim for a fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday when they travel to play the Elmira Pioneers at 6:30 p.m.

NIAGARA FALLS — On Sunday afternoon, the Newark Pilots were looking to end their minor two-game losing streak after dropping both games of their doubleheader on Saturday against the Geneva Red Wings at Colburn Park.
The Pilots were not able to end their losing streak on Father’s Day following a 14-4 loss at the Niagara Falls Americans in seven innings.
Newark (1-12) scored a run in the top of the first inning but struggled in the bottom half of the opening inning.
Starting pitcher Grant Ingram suffered the loss for the Pilots after not being able to get out of the first inning. Ingram gave up five runs − only one earned − during the first inning as he only threw 0.2 innings.
Center fielder Jackson Bower from Niagara Falls had a good day at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in.
Bower’s teammate Dominick Zangardi also smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Americans a 10-4 lead at the time before tacking on four more runs in the final inning.
Jackson Learner earned the win in relief for Niagara Falls (8-8) as he tossed 3.1 innings while only allowing one hit, one walk, and he held Newark to zero runs scored.
Right fielder Aiden Bolan went 1-for-2 in the game for the Pilots while knocking in two runs at the plate.
Newark will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to play the Niagara Ironbacks at George Taylor Field at 6:30 p.m.
