The North Fayette Valley baseball team got the job done in extra innings Friday night thanks to a walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th inning against Sumner-Fredericksburg.
Playing on the road, the TigerHawks gave up eight runs in the top of the first to put themselves in a big hole early – but they quickly got to work on offense by plating three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
With a combined 16 total runs over the first three innings, NFV trailed by a score of 10-6 before both teams settled in defensively and on the mound. Each team plated one more run over the course of the next three innings before North Fayette Valley scored four in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras.
Each team scored a run in the eighth before a scoreless ninth. The TigerHawks continued to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard in the top of the 10th before walking it off in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
Sophomore Cain Rodgers had a team-high four hits in six at-bats from his leadoff spot, while Keegan McDermott also collected a season-high three hits in four official at-bats.
On the mound, Drew Stolka pitched eight full innings in relief, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three to earn the win.
