The Giants announced on Monday afternoon that they will play a split doubleheader on Aug. 29 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing them to avoid a logistical nightmare after last week’s series finale against the Atlanta Braves was postponed.

San Francisco and Arizona will now both have an off-day on Aug. 30.

Even with the doubleheader, the team still plans to retire incoming Hall of Famer Jeff Kent’s No. 21 on Aug. 29.

The Giants were originally slated to play the Braves on June 18, but that game was postponed to Aug. 31 due to rain. If San Francisco’s original schedule remained the same, the team would’ve had to play 23 games in 23 consecutive days beginning on Aug. 18.

Following their game against the Braves at Truist Park, the Giants will play three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, followed by three more against the New York Mets at Citi Field.

The Giants were originally slated to give away a Jung Hoo Lee bobblehead on Aug. 30. That promotional item will now be given away before Game 1 of the split doubleheader.
