Stratham native Ben Malgeri made his Major League debut Tuesday night for the Detroit Tigers.Malgeri, a graduate of Exeter High School and two-time Division I baseball state champion with the Blue Hawks, recorded his first big league hit on the first pitch he faced Tuesday off Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon.The 26-year-old was drafted in the 18th round by the Tigers in 2021 and has spent the last five years in the team’s minor league system. He was called up Tuesday and played right field.Malgeri went 2-3 in his debut with a pair of singles and scored a run.His whole family was at Comerica Park to witness his lifelong dream come true.”It’s an emotional moment, because you realize what a big moment it is,” said Lynn Malgeri, Ben’s mother. “A lot of tears, a lot of tears after the game.
