IOWA CITY- Coming off of two wins the Central Lee Lady Hawks traveled to Bob Pearl Field Wednesday night paying Washington. Unfortunately, Central Lee would record just two hits losing 4-1.
Washington got on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs. A leadoff walk by Leighton Salazar and Reagan Miller who was hit by a pitch would score on a sacrifice fly from Keagyn Coleman and a single by Lillyn Magdefrau for a 2-0 Washington lead.
The Lady Hawks would fall behind by another run in the bottom of the third after a leadoff single from Washington’s Colbie Greiner. A courtesy runner would score on a groundball that was mishandled by CLHS extending the lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fourth the Lady Hawks would take advantage of Washington’s wildness in the circle. With one out Kenna Sandoval, Olivia Day, and McKenna Fransk received walks. Macy Butler would also walk forcing Sandoval to score and cutting Washington’s lead to 3-1. Washington would answer with one run in the bottom of the inning restoring a 4-1 lead.
Rayleigh Burden was in the circle for CLHS. She pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing two hits, three runs, (two earned), and three walks. Butler pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief allowing one hit, one run, and one walk.
Aubree Bunnell and Fransk recorded one hit apiece for CLHS. Sandoval reached base twice with two walks and one run scored. Butler had CLHS one RBI.
Central Lee drops to (11-12) on the season. They hosted New London Thursday night and play in the Rick Doran Classic starting on Friday at Iowa City West High School. CLHS’ first game is against Independence at 1 p.m. The second game is against Iowa City High at 4:30 p.m.
