With two big innings Tuesday evening, the Waverly Post 142 Senior Shockers 18U team defeated the Ohio RedHawks Baseball Club 17U team by a score of 8-1.
The Shockers scored all eight of their runs in the first two innings.
Kage Alexander (Waverly HS) worked a leadoff walk in the first inning, stole second base and third base, and then scored when Caeleb Cox (Waverly HS) came up with a single, 1-0. Nolan Barnett (Valley HS) worked the next walk before Mason Bradley (Minford HS) singled to right field, filling the bases. Landon Remy (Waverly HS) had the next hit, plating Cox to double the lead. Kendon Day (Piketon HS) popped up to right field in foul territory, allowing Barnett to tag up and score. The final run scored when Parker Robinson (Valley HS) grounded out to plate Bradley, making the score 4-0.
The Shockers doubled the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Andrew Oyer (Huntington HS) led off with a bunt single. Alexander followed with a triple to send him home, 5-0. Alexander scored when Cox grounded out to second base, 6-0. Waverly wasn’t done yet. Barnett singled to right field and took second on an error by the right fielder. Bradley followed with an RBI-single to right field, 7-0. Remy followed with another single and then Day was hit by a pitch to fill the bags. Bradley scored when Robinson drew a two-out walk, making the lead 8-0.
That lead held until the top of the seventh inning when the RedHawks generated a run to break up the shutout.
For the Shockers, Alexander was 1-for-3 with a triple, two stolen bases, two runs and one RBI. Cox was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Bradley was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Remy was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two stolen bases. Robinson finished with two RBIs and Day had one.
Grady Holland (Symmes Valley HS) started on the mound and went 2.2 innings to earn the win. He gave up two hits, while striking out three. Elijah Lung (Wellston) logged 1.1 innings, striking out three and walking one. Mason Bradley struck out one batter in one inning of work. Kendon Day pitched the final two innings, giving up one run, which was unearned, on two hits, while striking out one and walking one.
