BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Tony Mansolino had been the Orioles’ interim manager for less than 48 hours. He has admitted what an anxiety-filled weekend that was. Near the top of his to-do list during those first two days was to call Jackson Holliday into his office.

“J, you’re going to play every day,” Mansolino told the 21-year-old.

And for now, that everyday spot, no matter the opposing pitcher, would be as the Orioles’ leadoff hitter — the culmination of an ascendant trend in the batting order for one of Baltimore’s best hitters this season.

Sunday’s win was the 18th time this season Holliday batted leadoff. The first four were lineups decided by Brandon Hyde in his final week as manager. The other 14 have come in 15 games under Mansolino.
