On Friday, Casey Borba announced that he will return to the Texas baseball team in 2027.
In a post on social media, Borba wrote that he’s “Ready for one more ride.” One of the last remaining links to the David Pierce era at Texas, Borba recently completed his third season with the Longhorns.
The return of Borba helps Texas retain a key veteran with players like Ruger Riojas and Luke Harrison having exhausted their eligibility and Aiden Robbins and Carson Tinney expected to depart after next month’s MLB draft. Borba has appeared in 146 games over the course of his three-year college career, and he started 60 times during UT’s run to the 2026 College World Series.
Borba is coming off a junior year in which he ranked among the Longhorn leaders in homers (18) and RBIs (57). The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Californian also struck out a team-high 81 times while posting a .266 batting average and .365 on-base percentage.
While posting a .989 fielding percentage, Borba also proved to be a versatile infielder for the Longhorns this past season. After starting at third base during the 2025 season, Borba took over at first base in 2026. Injuries forced Texas to twice shuffle the makeup of its infield, and Borba ended the season back at third base. A return to first base seems likely for Borba since former Texas Tech third baseman Linkin Garcia was the first member of UT’s 2026 transfer class.
