All-Star catcher William Contreras, outfielder Jackson Chourio, and field coordinator Nestor Corredor are attempting to bring relief to their homeland Venezuela from Milwaukee. This week from Monday through Friday in conjunction with Forward Latino, they are hosting an emergency relief drive benefiting victims of the devastating earthquakes in northern Venezuela.

The drive, United for Venezuela, will accept donations at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Jackson Park on 41st and Oklahoma. Drop-off hours will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday, July 3 with a Brewers players meet-and-greet on Monday at 12:30 p.m.

Requested items include non-perishable food items, hygiene products, emergency supplies, and workwear to be sent to those in-need across Venezuela. A full list can be found below. The drive is through non-profit group Forward Latino to safely and securely donate to the goods to vetted humanitarian programs in Venezuela.

All three Brewers hosting the drive were members of the World Baseball Classic champion Team Venezuela in this year’s edition of the global tournament. On Friday, Contreras wore his Team VZLA catcher’s gear adorned in yellow, blue, and red for his home country’s flag with the following inscription in Spanish on his chest protector:

“God bless Venezuela. We are united for Venezuela, praying for Venezuela. May faith be greater than fear, and may peace come soon to our land. God help us.”

Chourio also wore plenty of his Team VZLA gear over the weekend and even changed his walk-up song to Venezuelan artist Luis Silva’s ballad aptly named “Venezuela.”

Contreras and Corredor spoke with Apple TV’s Tricia Whitaker before Friday’s nationally televised broadcast on the need for relief back home. “We need more than just put the name on the hats,” Contreras said. “Right now there are a lot of people looking for help. Looking for meals, medicine … we’re trying our best to represent the country but also help them.”
