KOKOMO, Ind. — The Napoleon Legion Post #300 baseball team entered the Kokomo wood-bat tournament on a six-game win streak and left Indiana on an 11-game win streak after scoring three consecutive shutout wins to complete its perfect sweep through the tournament over the weekend.
The River Bandits closed the tournament with 7-0 and 4-0 wins over Kokomo Post #6 and Muncie Post #19 on Saturday, respectively, before a 7-0 win over Stevensville Post #568 in the championship game Sunday morning.
Cory Herman (Edgerton) set the tone for the Bandits on Saturday, firing a no-hitter with two walks and four strikeouts across all seven innings.
Kaden Kreinbrink (Liberty Center) powered Post #300 at the plate, belting a home run both days and finishing with a pair of homers, two walks and four RBI in the two days.
Ryne Maag and Camden Bukowski (Bryan) combined for the shutout in Saturday’s second game, as Maag allowed two hits with one walk and three strikeouts across three frames to open the game. Bukowski nabbed the save in the last four innings, allowing two hits with two strikeouts.
Logan Stein picked up the win complete-game shutout win in the title game, allowing four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Tripp Langenderfer (Archbold) led the Bandits with five hits and drove in a run in the final two days, while Anthony Singer (Fairview) had three singles with a walk and an RBI.
Also at the plate, Kenneth Smeltzer (RBI) — from Montpelier — and Parker Hancock both singled twice, while Cade Carlin (Bryan) singled with two walks and a pair of RBI. Bukowski and Maddox Baker (Edgerton) both singled, walked and knocked in a run, Stein had a hit with two RBI and Owen Reynolds doubled in the title game.
The River Bandits, who improved to 19-5 overall, return to action Wednesday against the Rapid City Post #22 Hardhats on the first day of the Rapid City Firecracker tournament in South Dakota.
