After a strong first half (42-33), Charlotte’s first week of the second half was not as solid, as the Knights dropped four of six to Rochester (49-30). The Rochester Red Wings finished in first place in the East division of the International League in the first half, and they showed why.

Catcher Korey Lee, 27, showed that he wants to be back in the picture. By and large, White Sox catchers have struggled this season, and even with Kyle Teel back, there is a case to be made for Lee to rejoin the majors. This week, Lee went 5-for-14 with a homer, three doubles, and four walks. He posted a 1.286 OPS this week, increasing his season OPS to .776. The catcher was previously named Knight of the Week during the season’s first week, and with this excellent performance, he picked up his second weekly award. Meanwhile, although White Sox backup catcher Drew Romo’s defense has been solid, due to his poor bat (.137/.224/.337, 53 wRC+), he is hardly above replacement level. Well done to Lee on his strong performance against one of the International League’s best pitching staffs.

For the fourth week in a row, the Dash went .500 to remain nine games better than .500. With all kinds of losing records happening in the farm system, Winston-Salem’s stability was enough for them to have the affiliates’ best record of the week.

Outfielder George Wolkow, 20, was very difficult for Hub City (38-37) to solve. Wolkow picked up his second Dash of the Week award this season by going 7-for-25 with three homers, two doubles, five walks, nine RBIs, and two steals without being caught. Wolkow’s start to the season was slow (.695 OPS in April), but he has picked up the pace lately (.795 OPS in May, .794 OPS in June).

The Cannon Ballers got off to a slow start this week, losing the first four games to Columbia (38-37). However, Kannapolis salvaged the series by winning the last two matchups. There is plenty of time remaining, but the Cannon Ballers are off to a slow start in the second half.

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Schiefer, 22, provided great work out of the bullpen for Kannapolis. Schiefer pitched 4 1/3 innings without allowing any runs, and he only allowed one hit. In Saturday’s game, Schiefer’s performance helped the Cannon Ballers get their first victory of the week. Schiefer entered the game with the score tied at one, and Schiefer pitched two shutout innings to keep the low-scoring game tied. Kannapolis proceeded to score two in the seventh, and they held on.

Once again, the Complex Sox only picked up one victory in five games this week, as they have really struggled this season. As a result, they are 17 games below .500, and they have the worst record in the Arizona Complex League.

Despite another poor week for the team, shortstop Yordani Soto, 17, was on top of his game. The Arizona Complex League did not start until May, but Soto has already been the Complex Sox Player of the Week three times. This week, Soto went 5-for-11 with a homer, a triple, a double, four walks, and three RBIs. That resulted in a 1.600 OPS for the week, and he is slashing .281/.389/.531 in 35 games this season.

The DSL White Sox had another bad week, failing to win any of their five games, and they are alone in last place in the Southwest division of the DSL.

Right-handed starting pitcher Ronald Kelly, 17, was one of the few players who performed admirably for this squad. During Tuesday’s game, Kelly delivered four shutout innings, and he did not even allow a hit. On top of that, Kelly picked up seven strikeouts. That excellent performance lowered Kelly’s season ERA to 3.55, and opponents are slashing only .178/.333/.311 against him.
